Catfish Bend Casino Slot Machine Attacker Gets Jailed
A 41-year old Eastern Iowa man faces charges for a slot machine assault in Catfish Bend Casino - the Davenport man, Truy Huu Phung, was allegedly playing a video slot machine at the Catfish Bend Casino in July this year when he suddenly he began to attack the machine, striking it with his right hand.
Authorities reported that Phung then looked around after the attack and noticed no one had seen his outburst - then he coolly cashed out of the casino and walked away with no incident; he must have been thinking that no one was any the wiser.
By mid-August however, Catfish Bend Casino officials found a grainy surveillance video that showed a man looking very similar to Phung battering the machine and then discovered that his Player’s Club card was the last one used before the attack.
The judge handling the case declined to lower the Phung’s $5,000 bail and said that Phung, whose address is listed as a homeless shelter in Davenport, had failed to appear in court on other charges before and seemed to have no family in the state.
Phung will now face a November trial on charges of second-degree criminal mischief, a Class-D felony, which is punishable by up to five years in prison. Phung has pleaded not guilty to the charges and is awaiting his trial which is set for November 14th later this year in jail.
Casino technicians estimate the damage to the slot machine to be at $1,500.
