Cirque du Soleil, Las Vegas and the Casino Hotels

Ever seen Cirque du Soleil? I had the (extreme) pleasure of seeing their performance ‘La Nouba’ last year together with my fiance. The experience is one which I would gladly give as a memorable experience to my loved ones and family wrapped up in a trip of some sorts. I’ll think up of that one later how to go about it.

Cirque du Soleil Stilt Walkers

I decided to check out their history tonight and was surprised to see that they have just a beautiful website as their performances. Let’s admit it, those who read Enid Blyton adventure books and dreamt of the romantic side of gypsy caravans - those who live in a dream world forgetting that circus animals are sometimes treated cruelly - those of us who love the old postcards and posters of Paris and the acrobatic performances in its romantic heyday - those who love the romance of reading old books and imagining the greyed out world of old silent films - Cirque du Soleil reminds us that an old world of hard working performers and highly talented and unique individuals still exists today to be seen and even touched and its all in the brightest colors you can ever imagine.

The Cirque du Soleil website takes you through this ‘old’ world in flash technology and you’re accompanied by silhouettes of stilt-walkers and other performers moving on and off the stage of your ‘old’ world page, browned with age and exciting the senses with music that reminisces of Ali Baba and the Fourty Thieves or Arabian Nights.

Cirque du Soleil Mystere Las Vegas

In the period 1992 to 1994, Steve Winn, President of Mirage Resorts, made an offer to Cirque du Soleil to make a permanent performance installation in Las Vegas and thus in 1994, Mystere premiered at the Treasure Island Hotel in Las Vegas thereby setting a new standard and changing the way live entertainment was perceived and presented in Las Vegas.

Having been inspired by the success of Mystere, Steve Winn went further to inviting Cirque back to Las Vegas in 1998 to mount the “O” in a specially constructed theater in the Bellagio Resort. “O” had set a new benchmark in theatrical performance and entertainment everywhere.

The rest is history as most Americans may know it - after having had discussions with Disney over a 10-year period, Cirque du Soleil gave in but under their own conditions to keep the integrity and to retain their own creative control in the Disney performances, now being held in Orlando with the Disney cooperated effort ‘La Nouba’. This came only after direct intervention of Michael Eisner, Disneys Chairman and CEO.

Later, Cirque du Soleil presented ‘ZUMANITI’ at the New York New York Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
