Mississippi Belle II Riverboat Casino Makes its Last Cruises
The Mississippi Belle II/Wild Rose Casino riverboat casino by Wild Rose Entertainment, the last excursion boat in the nation to offer gambling cruises, will be cruising its last scenic rounds on the Mississippi River. It seems the era of floating and cruising riverboat casinos will soon become history.
The Mississippi Belle II Casino in Clinton will make its final voyage on October 10th 2007, as reported by company officials. After offering dockside gambling over the winter, the paddlewheeler will be replaced next spring by the $35 million Wild Rose Casino, a land-based business.
The new proposed 28,000 square feet Wild Rose casino complex, under construction on Clinton’s west edge along U.S. Highway 30, will be on a single level, making it more accessible to senior citizens and disabled people who can have difficulty getting around a four-deck riverboat. It will feature higher ceilings, a 60-room hotel and a 1,000-seat events center for concerts, business meetings and other activities and a themed restaurant and buffet.
The Clinton County hopes that the new casino facility will be a tremendous asset to the community and that is will increase the amount of funding available for distribution to deserving non-profit organizations throughout the county. In June 2006, Wild Rose Entertainment based in West Des Moines, purchased the riverboat from the Robert Kehl family.
The vision of Wild Rose Entertainment was to develop a first-class gaming facility that would reminiscence Clinton’s rich history by employing architectural elements of the Van Allen Building designed by Louis Sullivan in the early 1900’s. The property is slated to open in mid 2008.
Many guests who are lovers of true riverboat casino cruising are heading to the Mississippi Belle II to take advantage of their last opportunity for a gambling cruise.
