A Short History of the Casino Baden-Baden
1748 - First mention of licensed gambling in Baden-Baden
1809 - Opening of the game room in the Konversationshaus in the marketplace, the present day town hall. Gambling also in the promenade house (on the site of the present day’s spa).
1824 - Friedrich Weinbrenner builds the Kurhaus. The Spielsaal (Gaming Hall) is today’s Weinbrenner hall. The ducal government in Karlsruhe closes a on 15-year lease contract with the banker Chabert.
1838 - The gaming rooms in the Paris Palais-Royal are closed. The Paris casino lessee Jacques Bénazet takes over the Casino Baden-Baden. The fashionable game Roulette gradually ousted the card games Pharaoh and Rouge-et-Noir.
1848 - After the death of his father, Edouard Bénazet takes charge of the casino. The new tenant, who counts many prominent personalities as his friends, gets famous musicians and actors to Baden-Baden and brings the Iffezheimer Race to life in 1858.
1855 - Edouard Bénazet inaugurates the Parisian interior architect and artist-designed rooms in the new right wing of the gaming Kurhaus The Winter Garden, the Red Room, the Florentine Room and the Salon Pompadour.
1872 - The German government in Berlin decrees the closure of all German Casinos.
1933 - The lottery operating in Baden-Baden is resumed. Renewed closure of the casinos in the final stages of the Second World War, 1944.
1950 - Official grand opening of the third Baden casino.
2003 - On 01 August 2003, the concession for the Spielbank Baden-Baden goes to the Baden-Württembergische Casinos GmbH & Co. KG. for the next 10 years. All 3 Baden-Württemberg casinos with locations in Baden-Baden, Constance and Stuttgart are now under a new umbrella name.
